Calling all children, youth and adults to help with our Stop Hunger NOW event.
Mark your CALENDARS now- Wednesday, May 7th.

stopHungerHere’s a little background about the Stop Hunger Now ministry.
Our Vision:
A world without hunger.
Our Mission:
To end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-saving aid to the world’s most vulnerable and by creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources.
History
Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief agency that has been fulfilling its commitment to end hunger for more than 15 years. Since 1998, the organization has coordinated the distribution of food and other lifesaving aid to children and families in countries all over the world.
Stop Hunger Now created its meal packaging program, in 2005. The program perfected the assembly process that combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix including 21 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packets. Each meal costs only 25 cents. The food stores easily, has a shelf-life of two years and transports quickly. Stop Hunger Now works with international partners that ship and distribute the meals in-country.

Our Goal is to package 32,000 meals!
We will have three packaging sites across the District so everyone can help.
a. Nelson UMC- 5239 Thomas Nelson Highway, Arrington
b. Zion UMC- 1674 Zion Road, Troy
c. Culpeper UMC- 1233 Oaklawn Drive, Culpeper
Set-up will be at 4:30 p.m. and the packaging will begin at 6:00 p.m.
Pick the site that is the most convenient for you.
We need to have at least 50 people at each site.
In order to package 32,000 meals we will need to raise $8,000.
Here’s some ways you might consider:

  • Skip a meal at a fast food restaurant monthly and donate that money
  • Children’s Sunday School classes could learn about SHN and receive an offering during class
  • During Lent receive an offering for the hungry
  • Donate in memory or honor of a loved one
  • Local churches use some of your Mission money

Please send your checks to the District Office made payable to “Charlottesville District” and in the memo section mark “SHN.”
We are doing this event so that we can get closer as brothers and sisters in Christ on the District and because of Jesus’ words,

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Please begin praying for this event and see you May 7th!!!
